Last weekend, we finally got together to celebrate Eva Juffermans and Izak Hanse becoming Members of Merit! A shoutout to our amazing organizers (Dagmar, Lars, Mees, Pepijn, Thijs, and Tommie) for planning such a fun day. The main event was a kick scooter clinic (steppen), taught by Lars’s aunt and her team.
We started the morning in front of het Hok with coffee, tea, and some homemade apple pie. Afterwards we grabbed our scooters and headed to the Hogekampplein for an introductory training session.
As it turns out, kick scootering is quite a technical sport. Cornering is harder than it looks, and you have to smoothly switch your pushing foot every few strokes, ideally without falling. Fortunately, everyone got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Once we felt comfortable, we went for a tour across the campus and even tackled the MTB single track. Of course, no ride is complete without a town sign sprint along the way. We finished the active part of the day with a 300m sprint competition on the Utrack, where Naud and Jasmin took the win.
After the races, it was sadly time to return the scooters and head over to the Sports Canteen for a well-deserved lunch together.
